October 2020

On 16th and 17th October 2020, the Mid-term Check Meeting for the TACK project took place in the digital space due to the ongoing pandemic. EU-Project Officer Eleni Deligianni, responsible for TACK at the Research Executive Agency (REA), joined the network for two consecutive days, to engage in a constructive dialogue with the network participants about the project’s milestones, fellows and challenges to date.

After a short introduction by Tom Avermaete the meeting began with a tour de table, in which the academic partners, the cultural institutes, as well as the offices presented themselves. After that, the REA project officer Eleni Deligianni gave a detailed presentation on the obligations of the network, reporting, finance, etc. Her presentation was followed by the coordinator’s report, given by Tom Avermaete, Janina Gosseye, Korinna Zinovia Weber and the Ethics Advisor Michele Loi. Apart from the technical aspects of the project, the Milestones of the first year were highlighted, such as the Konvolut folder, the meetings, the TACK Talks etc. The coordinators also spoke about the challenges linked to Covid-19, which necessitated the development of a contingency plan that is updated continuously. Many questions and discussions were linked to Covid-19, as this has caused some deviations from the original project plan: meetings that were planned to take place in person were held digitally, some secondments were postponed and a few ESRs had trouble to move country due to the lockdown.

For the second day of the meeting, the TACK ESRs prepared on-point presentations, speaking about their projects and deviations to their projects so far. Although Covid-19 affected each project in a different way, all ESRs were optimistic that they could find ways to work around the imposed restrictions, and even integrate some of the questions and challenges linked to the pandemic into their research. After that, the REA Project Officer spoke with the ESRs separately, and then also privately with the project coordinators. The meeting concluded with a few comments from the REA Project Officer on supervision, suggestions on how to spend the budget and also congratulations on the excellency of the chosen ESRs.

The coordinator’s team would like to deeply thank all participants of the Mid-term Check Meeting. The time that everyone invested in this event was highly appreciated!
