This module focuses on how the tacit dimension of design practice generates a particular kind of knowledge that cannot be obtained through other methods of knowledge production. Certain aspects of the built environment, such as those relating to artistic and perceptual dimensions, but also those relating to everyday and informal use, seem to be addressed more adequately by tacit methods of transmitting knowledge. Through concrete case studies –architectural projects or architectural practices— the ESRs will learn about the heuristic capacities, as well as limitations, of tacit knowledge.
